TikTok, previously known as musical.ly, makes it easy to download videos from inside the app — but only if a user has their videos available to download. Here is how you can download any TikTok video — even if the creator has video downloads blocked.

Downloading TikTok Videos from Inside the App

There are two different ways to download videos from inside the TikTok app. Both are extremely simple.

Start by finding the video you want to download by scrolling through your timeline or searching for the user who created the video. If you want to download your own video, go to your profile video list and find it there.

To use the first download method, simply hold the middle of the screen while viewing the video you want to download. Then, choose “Save Video” from the overlay that pops up. The video will be saved to your phone’s default photo storage location.

To use the second method, tap the arrow-shaped Share icon on the side of the screen while viewing the video. Then, choose “Save Video” from the menu that appears at the bottom of the screen. Your video will be downloaded to the same place as the first method.

Downloading TikTok Videos With a Third-Party App

The above methods will work for videos that have downloading enabled by their creator. They won’t work, however, if their creator has blocked video downloading. You also can’t download videos from private accounts.

The only way to download a video with downloading blocked is by using a third-party app.

On iPhone, you can use an app like Total Files or the Tiktok Downloader shortcut.

To use Total Files to download a video, follow these steps:

  • Open the Total Files app and tap on the Globe at the bottom right.
  • Paste the URL of the video you want to download in the URL bar the appears.
  • Once the video has loaded, play it.
  • While the video is playing, tap the center of the screen. The app will then ask if you want to download the video.
  • Tap the green checkmark and select a location for your download.

On Android, you can use the Video Downloader for Social Media app, available on the Google Play store.

There are also a few websites that let you download TikTok videos, like MusicallyDown and SnapTik.

Using these tools is as simple as pasting in the URL of the video you want to download and pressing enter. The video will be saved to your downloads folder, rather than your default photos folder.

You can find the link to any TikTok video by pressing the Copy URL button in the Share menu.

None of these apps or websites are officially supported, however — use them at your own risk.

Downloading TikTok Videos Using Live Photos

If you have an iPhone, you can also save TikTok videos using Live Photos.

To do this, click the Share button. Scroll to the right on the second row of the menu that appears and press the Live Photo button. The video will be turned into a Live Wallpaper that you can use on your lock screen.

This feature won’t work on videos that are from private accounts or that have downloading disabled.

TikTok: Download Video

Downloading videos from TikTok is pretty simple, but only if downloading videos is allowed by a creator. To download videos with downloading blocked, you’ll need to use a slightly more complicated method.

Third-party apps will allow you to download these videos, but they aren’t officially supported and may be buggy.
