Paramount Plus has two different subscription tiers, including a premium plan that includes content from Showtime. For this list, we stuck to movies that are included in the ad-supported essential subscription. All of these movies are available at Paramount Plus’s lowest price point, with the exception of the Showtime category at the end.
1. Action: Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
2022’s Top Gun: Maverick is the long-awaited sequel to the cult classic action film Top Gun. It follows the return of famed Navy fighter pilot Pete Mitchell (Tom Cruise) as he attempts to train a new class of elite hotshot pilots.
This film was one of the very best to come out in 2022. As of 2023, it ranks #12 on the worldwide all-time box office top 100 list. It’s not only one of the best action movies on this streaming service, but one of the best movies on Paramount Plus period. The original Top Gun is also included in the standard subscription so you can watch it before Maverick to get the full experience.
2. Comedy: Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986)
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off needs no introduction. This cult classic comedy is among the most beloved titles in film history.
For those who have not seen it before, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off tells the story of 17-year-old Ferris Bueller’s wild scheme to skip school with his girlfriend and his best friend. Meanwhile, Ferris’s suspicious sister and crazy principal plot to put a stop to the best day off ever.
3. Drama: Fences (2016)
Adapted from August Wilson’s acclaimed play, Fences tells the story of Troy, Rose and Cory Maxson, a Black family living in Pittsburgh in the 1950s. Starring Denzel Washington and Viola Davis, this film features a phenomenal cast that expertly brings the original story to life for the screen.
Fences is an emotional, yet hopeful period drama that doesn’t shy away from the Maxsons’ difficult family dynamics. While it does explore the family’s struggles with racism in 1950s America, the highlight of the story is Troy’s relationships with his wife and son. It’s a story about family, dreams and the reality that the two aren’t always compatible.
4. Documentary: Console Wars (2020)
Console Wars follows the action-packed true story of the rivalry between gaming giants Nintendo and SEGA in the 1990s. While Nintendo and SEGA are more allies than enemies today, that was not the case a few decades ago.
In the early golden era of console gaming, the competition between Nintendo and SEGA was fierce. This fun and exciting documentary brings in celebrities and insiders to tell the story of one of history’s most famous pop culture rivalries.
5. Fantasy: Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023)
2023’s Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is a funny, adventurous fantasy film complete with dragons, magic and a team of unlikely heroes. It’s based on the famous roleplaying game Dungeons and Dragons, but you don’t need to be familiar with the game to enjoy this movie (although it does level up the viewing experience).
Starring Chris Pine and Hugh Grant, Honor Among Thieves follows Edgin (Chris Pine), a thief who only steals from the rich, as he attempts to pull off a dangerous heist and put his family back together.
6. Horror: A Quiet Place (2018)
A Quiet Place is a post-apocalyptic horror film that makes creative use of sound. The film has only 25 lines of spoken dialogue and the cast all learned ASL to perform most of their conversations on screen. In fact, one of the lead actors, Millicent Simmonds, is actually deaf in real life in addition to playing a deaf character on screen.
A Quiet Place follows the Abbott family’s struggle to survive after a world-ending catastrophe that leaves strange alien creatures at the top of Earth’s food chain. The monsters hunt using sound, so every whisper and footstep in this horror thriller will leave you tense with anticipation.
7. Kid-Friendly: Spy Kids (2001)
There’s a lot of great family-friendly shows and movies on Paramount Plus, including the wildly popular Paw Patrol series and a boatload of Nickelodeon content. Among the best kids movies on Paramount Plus is the classic family action movie Spy Kids.
This fun spy thriller follows two kids, Juni and Carmen, as they discover their parents are spies and fight to rescue them from an evil scientist. It’s the first in a series of movies, all of which are available on Paramount Plus’s standard subscription.
8. Sci-Fi: Interstellar (2014)
Interstellar is a critically acclaimed, star-studded science fiction movie that isn’t from a major pop culture franchise. It stars the likes of Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Matt Damon and a young Timothee Chalamet.
Directed by the legendary Christopher Nolan, Interstellar is a must-see, especially for those who enjoyed Nolan’s 2023 hit Oppenheimer. Much of the film’s science is realistic and based on real-world physics and astronomy. The soundtrack and atmosphere of the film are hard to beat, as well.
Set in the eerily near future, Interstellar follows astronaut-turned-farmer Cooper as he leads a desperate mission to find a new home for humanity before Earth runs out of time. The mission strains Cooper’s close-knit bond with his daughter as they are separated by time and space.
9. Thriller: Mission: Impossible (Complete Series)

The Mission: Impossible films are about the daring exploits of an elite team of spies led by Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise). Over the course of six-plus films, they unravel murder mysteries, take down terrorists, outsmart evil geniuses, topple crime syndicates and more.
Each film features guest appearances from A-list actors including Philip Seymour Hoffman, Simon Pegg, Jeremy Renner and Rebecca Ferguson.
10. Showtime: Everything, Everywhere, All At Once (2022)
Many of the best movies on Paramount Plus are available with the lowest price tier. However, if you are willing to pay a little extra to get access to Showtime content, there’s a lot more great movies you can watch.
Among these is the Oscar award winning hit Everything, Everywhere, All At Once. This indie film was one of the highlights of the 2022 box office. It went on to receive numerous academy awards and a massive fanbase online.

In between thrilling action sequences, the film deftly explores the complexities of life as an immigrant and Evelyn’s strained relationship with her daughter.
There are plenty of other great movies also worth checking out with the Showtime upgrade on Paramount Plus. These include 1917, Forrest Gump, Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Whale, and Catch Me If You Can.
