Whether you want to stream on your television, computer, or phone, we’ve got you covered. Here’s every way to add and watch Discovery Plus on Roku.

Why Should You Get Discovery Plus?

Discovery Plus is a great deal and has binge-worthy content. At the low price of $4.99 per month for the ad-free version, it’s one of the cheapest streaming services you can find. If that’s not enough to persuade you, you should check out its impressive lineup of shows and movies.

You can watch documentaries, sitcoms, reality shows and classics. It has titles like “HGTV,” “Hillsong: A Megachurch Exposed,” “Bigfoot Is Real,” “90 Day Fiancé” and “Cupcake Wars.” New content drops every week, adding to the over 70,000 episodes on the platform. It has a little bit of everything, whether you’re interested in cringe, true crime, or home makeovers.

Discovery Plus may not be as popular as Netflix or Hulu, but it has quality content. Unlike other streaming services, it isn’t primarily made up of shows you’ll never watch. Its mix of familiar favorites and interesting new content makes it one of the best streaming services out there.

How to Add Discovery Plus on Roku

This channel is compatible with Roku devices, so you don’t need to jump through any hoops to get it. Here’s how to add Discovery Plus on Roku.

1. Roku Device

The first way to get Discovery Plus is to install it from the menu on the Home page of your device. If you have an account, the process is as easy as hitting the “Sign In” button. If you don’t, you’ll need your email address and credit card information to open up a new account.

Even if you don’t have a Roku TV, you can use a Roku streaming stick to gain access. Once you open up Search — it’s in the lefthand options column — enter the keyword to pull up the channel. Once it pops up in the search results, select it and hit “Add channel” to add it.

2. Computer

Alternatively, you can use the Roku Channel Store if you’re away from home or don’t want to interrupt the show you’re watching. To begin, go to the Roku Channel Website and pull up Discovery Plus. From there, click the “Add Channel” button. If you’re not logged in yet, it will prompt you to sign in.

Once the website tells you you’re successful, you’re all set. Now, Discovery Plus should be on the Home page of the device you chose. It’ll also be on the website’s Channels page if you want to access it there.

3. Mobile App

If you want to speed things up, go through the standard process on your mobile device. If you haven’t downloaded the app yet, do so now. From there, tap the “Devices” icon on the bottom left of your screen and hit the “channels” button on the next page. Once you find Discovery Plus, tap the purple “Add” option.

How to Watch Discovery Plus on Roku

You have plenty of ways to stream once you’re done with the installation process. Here’s every way to watch Discovery Plus on Roku.

1. On Your Roku Device

You’ll have to sign in to your account before you can start binging any shows. You can watch it by selecting the “Go to channel” button that appears right after adding Discovery Plus. In the future, you can get to it by finding its icon on the home screen.

Once you log in, you can watch to your heart’s content. You should stay signed in even when you turn off your Roku device, so you can pick up where you left off by selecting the Discovery Plus app on the Home page.

2. Using Website Streaming

If you want to start watching immediately but don’t have access to a Roku device, you can stream online with the Roku Channel website. Although you can technically use it on a mobile device, we recommend using a computer since the quality and user interface will look better. Besides, there’s a separate option for phones.

Go to the Roku Channel Website and find Discovery Plus in your added channels to start watching. Alternatively, you can install it so you don’t have to keep visiting the website. You just have to hit the profile icon on the top right of your screen and select “Install to desktop.”

3. Using Mobile Streaming

You can watch straight from your phone. Once you open Discovery Plus on the app, you’ll be able to stream shows on the go. Just open the channel in the app and start watching. You can even pause a show on another device and use your phone to pick up where you left off.

Also, you can watch Discovery Plus on Roku offline if you have the more expensive ad-free plan. It lets you download shows so you don’t have to eat through your data while you’re binging the latest episode on the go.

4. Through Channel Launching

You can launch the channel on your Roku device from your phone. You just have to open the app and navigate to the channels page. It’s handy when you’re missing your remote or you want a faster experience. After all, typing and scrolling on a TV can be a pain.

The app has a voice-activation feature, so you can also tell it to launch Discovery Plus. As another bonus, you can use the app as a remote. It’s a lifesaver when you lose the actual remote and can’t be bothered to dig through the couch cushions.

What If You Don’t Want to Pay for a Subscription?

If you’re interested in Discovery Plus but aren’t ready to commit to a new streaming service, it has a seven-day free trial you can use. The streaming service doesn’t offer any military or student discounts as of 2023, so it’s your best bet if you want a cheap way to test the waters.

You can choose between the $4.99 or $6.99 plan when you sign up for a free trial. We obviously recommend the more expensive ad-free option since you won’t be paying for it, but it might come back to bite you if you forget to cancel before the auto-renewing subscription kicks in.

Before you begin, you should know the free trial is only available to new subscribers. However, you can get around this limitation if you have another card and a burner email address you can use. This way, you can get two weeks of free streaming in while you decide whether you want to subscribe for real.

Start Streaming Discovery Plus on Roku

Getting Discovery Plus on Roku is a pretty straightforward process since it’s directly compatible with Roku devices. Besides, we think the streaming service is worth the investment. Where else can you catch up on “House Hunters” and “Evil Lives Here” at the same time?
