People want to be happy — it’s a human desire that everyone understands. There’s no single way to create a happier lifestyle. Each person’s life is different, so each person needs to take his or her own approach to being happier. What helps? Create a happiness workflow.

In many ways, a happiness workflow is similar to a business workflow. Your workflow serves as your foundation — it keeps things organized and acts as the process as a whole, rather than a singular action. For example, workflow in business helps you manage daily processes to create an efficient and productive environment.

A happiness workflow isn’t so different. Going through the process helps instill positive habits that will help make your life happier and more fulfilled.

Find Something You Enjoy Doing Every Day

The most important way to create a happiness workflow is to find out what makes you happy every day. It could be as simple as your lunchtime conversations with coworkers or your evening walks. Before creating a happiness workflow, you need to discover what makes you happy — that way, you can incorporate more habits that will make you happy.

Don’t Always Take the Easy Route

The easy thing is not always best. Life is all about the journey, and you’ll learn much more if you take the time to learn something the hard way before taking the easy route. Plus, you’ll get more gratification when you overcome something difficult.

Enjoy the Little Things

You will go through life experiencing millions of little moments — you might as well enjoy them! Not everything needs to be important. You can be happy about a minor detail or get enjoyment from the simplest of things. If it makes you happy, it’s an important aspect of your life.

Have a Long-Term Goal

It’s important to appreciate the little things in life, but you should always strive for something long-term. You goals will constantly change as you grow older — that’s okay. It’s fine if your goals change, but make sure you have something to work toward each day. Your long-term goals can go from getting a job to getting married to writing a novel. It doesn’t matter what it is, as long as it’s something.

Maintain Close Relationships

Having strong relationships is essential for your physical and mental health. It’s important to not only maintain your relationships, but to be proactive with them. Be the one to initiate conversation, or do something special for the important people in your life. Whether these relationships are platonic or romantic, you should have a core group of people who will make you smile.

Be Happy with Other People’s Happiness

This can be one of the hardest things for people to accept, but instead of being envious of someone’s accomplishments, be happy for them. If a friend gets a promotion you thought you deserved, instead of being passive aggressive, be thrilled for your friend. It’s not always easy, but it’s better to focus on the positives instead of dwelling on any negative feelings.

Treat Yourself

You work hard every day — you deserve a reward. Set up a reward system for yourself. For example, if you’ve arrived on time at work every day of the week, treat yourself to Starbucks on Friday or have that cookie with your salad.

Don’t Be Afraid of Failure

Things will not always go the way you want them to go. Failure is natural — no one succeeds at everything. Rather than shying from the prospect, embrace it as an opportunity to grow stronger, and use failure as a learning experience. Don’t let the fear of failure stop you from trying something new or doing something you think will make you happy. Take the leap and go for it!

Create a Happiness Workflow

A happiness workflow doesn’t have to be complicated or tedious. Making that effort will have a larger impact than doing a few things sporadically. Simply take the time out of each day to find what makes you happy – and try to repeat it in the future.
