Whether you’re getting gifts for a gamer or treating yourself, accessories are a cost-effective way to upgrade a setup. We’ve collected the best Nintendo Switch accessories for the Switch, Switch Lite, Switch 2 and OLED model.
1. Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip
If you prefer a classic controller, attach this charging grip to the Joy-Con 2 controllers. It features two programmable back buttons, which you can map to any function you want. Unlike other adapters, it charges your Joy-Cons while you use them. In our opinion, it’s the best Nintendo Switch accessory for Switch 2 owners.
2. Protective Clear Grip Cover
You put a case on your phone, so why not do the same with your Switch? This case was designed specifically for the Switch Lite, with precision cutouts. The two raised parts in the bottom back corners provide a more ergonomic grip. It’s great because it is scratch-resistant and provides shock protection. Also, since it’s clear, your handheld’s color comes through.
3. PowerA Protection Case
This is the case I personally use whenever I travel with my Switch. While I’m sure the hard outer shell will protect it from drops, I haven’t had to find out. The rubberized handle provides a secure, nonslip grip. The built-in padded screen protector doubles as a stand, allowing you to play in tabletop mode on the go.
This case is compatible with the Switch 2, the Switch and the Switch OLED. It can store up to nine game cards and two microSD Express cards. The mesh pocket holds even more. I’ve fit two Joy-Cons in there, for reference. If you’re not a fan of Kirby, you can choose from eight other designs, including the Hyrule Crest, Pikachu Storm or monochromatic black.
4. SanDisk 128GB microSDXC Card
Whether you play a lot of games or take a lot of screenshots, you need extra storage. Switch games range from 3.5GB to 75GB, depending on whether you’re installing the GameCube app or Cyberpunk 2077. The Switch only comes with 32GB of internal storage. Note that if you have a Switch 2, you’ll need a MicroSD Express card, not a MicroSDXC card.
This MicroSDXC card has a read speed of up to 100MB per second, which is ideal for gaming. It instantly adds 128GB of storage. If you want more, don’t get two — the Switch can only hold one at a time. Instead, get 256GB, 512GB or 1TB. The largest MicroSD Nintendo offers features the Pokémon Snorlax’s face, by the way, which is hilarious.
5. Flip Cover Case With Screen Protectors
This slim protective case has a magnetically detachable front cover. The exterior is made from a soft nylon material, while the inner cover is made from microfiber. They work together to keep your Switch dust and scratch-free. You also get two tempered glass HD screen protectors for added protection. The case comes in turquoise, yellow, coral, gray and blue.
6. The 8BitDo Lite 2
If you don’t want to pay for Joy-Cons — we don’t blame you — you need the 8BitDo Lite 2. 8BitDo is a trusted third-party video game hardware company specializing in retro controllers. It has rumble vibration, motion control, thumbsticks and a D-pad for a third of the price of a new pair of Joy-Cons. 8BitDo even sells a keychain-sized version.
7. Official Switch Pro Controller
The Pro controller is one of the best Nintendo Switch accessories. It’s high-quality and sturdy, and includes every feature you’d expect, including motion controls and HD rumble. It even has built-in amiibo functionality. An NFC touch point is located right over the Nintendo Switch logo at the top of the controller. It’s a huge step up from the Joy-Con controller grip.
8. Official Switch 2 Pro Controller
While the original Pro controller is compatible with the Switch 2, the newer version was purpose-built for it. It has several upgrades, including two programmable triggers, a C button for chat and a 3.5mm audio jack for wired headphones.
Other features worth mentioning include the improved HD Rumble 2, which provides more nuanced haptics, built-in ambiibo functionality, a capture button and a 40-hour battery life. Also, it can wake up the Switch 2 remotely, which the original can’t do. Note that this controller isn’t compatible with the original Switch console.
9. Portable HD Gaming Monitor
This portable ISP monitor charges your Switch while you play. Your system attaches to the back via two high-strength velcro straps. The 11.6-inch HD screen is three times the size of the Switch screen. It comes with dual speakers, an adjustable kickstand and sturdy rubber feet. For ports, you get an HDMI, USB-C and 3.5mm audio jack.
10. Animal Crossing Switch Case
This hard-shell Animal Crossing case is a lot like the case I personally use. It comes with a rubberized carrying handle, a sure-glide zipper and a soft satin inner top lining. The inner screen protector pad doubles as an adjustable viewing stand.
The faux-leather exterior has debossed artwork featuring the Nook family and K.K. Slider. In addition to the case itself, you get hard game cases that hold up to eight game cards. They slip into a recessed area under the console for space-saving storage.
11. 4-Pack Silicone Thumb Grips
These silicone covers slip over the thumb sticks to improve grip and protection. By extending the sticks’ height, they help with aim without getting in the way of other buttons. They’re also a great way to personalize your system.
12. Overnight Case With Carrying Strap
The Pull-N-Go overnight travel case is large enough to hold your dock, cables, controllers, games and console. The bottom has interchangeable dividers, so you can store what you need, how you need. Thanks to all the zippers, high-strength velcro and snap fasteners, you don’t have to worry about anything falling out.
The upper case has space for your Switch and for games. A mesh pocket is best for small Nintendo Switch accessories. If you only need the essentials, you can separate them from the bottom case. It has a semi-hard shell and a wrist strap to make travel more convenient. This case is compatible with the Switch, Switch Lite and OLED models.
13. Nintendo Joy-Cons
A Switch comes with one pair of Joy-Cons. If you want to enjoy Mario Kart, Smash Bros, It Takes Two or Moving Out with friends, you need at least two sets. They’re pricey, but they’re jam-packed with tech, including accelerometers, gyro-sensors, infrared cameras and HD rumble. They can last 20 hours between charges.
14. Blue Light Screen Filter
This Japan-made screen protector filters blue light — which can cause eye strain and make falling asleep difficult — without giving your games a reddish tint. This is because it uses a high-quality, clear PET protective film. Since the Switch doesn’t have a night-light mode, this screen protector is perfect for late-night gaming.
15. Hori Piranha Plant Camera
This USB video camera features a flexible neck and a hinged bottom, so you can place it almost anywhere. Its mouth opens and closes, providing privacy when you don’t want to use video or voice chat. While it only has a 640×480 resolution, the imaging distance is impressive. You can get any old USB camera for less. We like it for its personality.

Why Should You Care About Officially Licensed Gear?
Nintendo Switch accessories that are officially licensed by Nintendo have been designed and tested for the Switch. They are rigorously evaluated based on compatibility and quality before the company approves them, ensuring you get the best possible product.
Buying a knockoff isn’t the end of the world. There are plenty of reputable third-party sellers, such as 8BitDo. This hardware manufacturer once even partnered with Xbox to create officially licensed controllers. In short, buying products that have received the stamp of approval guarantees quality, but that doesn’t mean third-party items are always inferior.
Which Nintendo Switch Accessories Do You Need?
We consider these products the best Nintendo Switch accessories for a reason. Whether you play the Switch whenever you can or pick it up once every few weeks, they’re must-haves. They can improve ergonomics, protect your system from damage or make travel easier. Which ones will you get?
