The Nintendo Switch is a revolutionary gaming platform that works as both a console and handheld device. Because it’s so versatile, you’ll obviously want to do more on your Switch than just play games. Since it’s a very popular streaming platform, gamers may wonder if Netflix is on Switch. A common household streaming platform and one of the most popular gaming systems together would be a game-changer.

Can You Watch Netflix on a Nintendo Switch?

Netflix is a subscription-based streaming platform that features popular movies and TV shows, as well as originals that the service created itself. It’s the most popular streaming service in the United States, likely due to the variety of genres and content it offers. The company has a history of partnering with Nintendo platforms so that its streaming service can reach gamers at home or away.

If you’ve played on other Nintendo platforms, you may be used to seeing a Netflix app. The 3DS series supported the streaming service, and you could catch your favorite Netflix shows from your Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo 2DS, Nintendo 3DS XL and New Nintendo 3DS XL. Unfortunately, like many other streaming platforms, Netflix is not yet available for download on the Nintendo Switch eShop.

Signs point to Netflix being downloadable on the eShop in the future. Since it’s been available on several systems in the past, it’s likely that Netflix on Switch might be a dream that will soon be realized. Netflix is a subscription-based platform, so a simple download won’t give you access to all its content. You need to sign up for one of its packages to enjoy the streaming service to its fullest.

Apps to Download Instead of Netflix

While Netflix on Switch might not be a reality right now, you can still enjoy several other streaming services on your Nintendo Switch. These streaming platforms all feature exciting shows and movies that can keep you entertained for hours. Some of them even have originals that are unique to their respective platforms.

1. Crunchyroll

Crunchyroll is the best place to watch your favorite anime, especially if it’s airing now. It specializes in newer anime with subtitles so you can enjoy your favorite shows and movies in their original format. Crunchyroll doesn’t require a subscription to watch, but you will have to sit through advertisements without a paid account. Still, a subscription is worth it if you plan to watch all the season’s best anime.

2. Funimation

Funimation is owned by Crunchyroll, but it contains mostly “dubbed” anime — meaning that you’ll find the anime dubbed over in English from its original Japanese. It has plenty of newer anime titles, just like Crunchyroll, but Funimation has also acquired older series that you might remember from childhood. This subscription-based app is a must-have for any old-school anime fan.

3. Hulu

When people think of Netflix, they likely think of Hulu next. Hulu also has originals that it creates and displays proudly on its platform. Hulu has over 45 million paid subscribers, making it one of the most popular subscription services out there. It’s also an affordable option for folks looking for a Netflix alternative, as it has lower subscription prices for subscribers who don’t mind advertisements.

4. Twitch

Twitch is a platform that celebrates creators, whether they play video games or talk about their lives. Most of the content on Twitch is delivered live, though creators can sometimes save videos or clips for their subscribers. Creators can progress through the ranks up to Twitch Partner and monetize their content. Whether you like to watch big names or almost-unknown streamers on Twitch, you can be sure that this app will work great on your Nintendo Switch.

5. YouTube

YouTube is the best app to find videos, whether they’re created by huge studios with expansive music videos or just talking essays by your favorite small creator. The draw of YouTube is its variety — you can find just about anything on its platform. It’s great for looking up funny videos with your friends or educating yourself on topics you never learned about in school. YouTube is free and a necessity for every Nintendo Switch.

Netflix on Switch Might Be in the Future

While Netflix on Switch isn’t a reality right now, it has a good chance to be added to the Nintendo Switch eShop for free download before too long. If you want other streaming services on your Nintendo Switch, you’ll find no shortage of substitutes.

Enjoy your time with your Nintendo Switch, whether you’re playing games or streaming your favorite movies and TV shows. While Netflix might not be available right now, you have plenty to do on your favorite gaming console without it.
