Whether you’ve been overwhelmed by act three, are attempting an Honour Mode run or are revisiting the game after patch seven, you’ll want to create a new character. Here are the most overpowered Baldur’s Gate 3 builds as of patch seven.
1. Battle Master Fighter
The fighter’s Battle Master subclass makes for one of the most overpowered Baldur’s Gate 3 builds. For you minmaxers out there, consider being a half-orc. If you reach zero hit points, you regain one hit point instead of being downed. Savage Attacks are another bonus.
Players who travel with Lae’zel may have accidentally stumbled upon this overpowered build. Your fighter gets Action Surge at level two, granting you one extra action per turn. Just wait — it gets better as you level.
What Makes It OP
You gain superiority dice — four d8s — at level three. We recommend selecting Disarming Attack, Menacing Attack, Pushing Attack, Sweeping Attack of Rally. You regain these dice after a short rest. Alternatively, you can use a Potion of Angelic Reprieve.
For your first feat, select Great Weapon Master. This toggleable passive increases your attack roll damage by 10 when you use a melee weapon. It also lets you use a bonus action to attack after you land a critical strike or defeat a target.
At fighter level five, you gain Extra Attack. This passive feature lets you make one additional attack after using an action to attack with your main hand weapon. In case you haven’t been counting, you already have up to four attacks per turn.
End Game Abilities
Level 11 gives you Improved Extra Attack. This passive feature works like Extra Attack, meaning it lets you make two additional attacks per trigger. Don’t worry about the damage you’ll take as a tank — the bonus action Second Wind lets you heal. You regain 1d10 + Fighter Level hit points.
In addition to Great Weapon Master: All In, we recommend getting the Alert feat. This way, you can’t be surprised and get +5 to initiative, almost ensuring you make the first move in combat.
Gear Recommendations
The Heavy Armour Master feat is also incredible because it offers +1 to strength and decreases the damage from non-magical attacks by three. Want to feel stronger? Use the Club of Giant Hill Strength, The Mighty Cloth, the Hr’a’cknir Bracers or the Titanstring Bow for strength bonuses.
2. Circle of the Moon Druid
A Circle of the Moon druid is easily among the best Baldur’s Gate 3 builds. It focuses on a druid’s ability to transform into a variety of powerful creatures and primal elements, giving you a unique advantage — like flight, corrosive spit or rupture — in all kinds of encounters.
What Makes It OP
As a Circle of the Moon druid, your primary ability is Wisdom. You start off proficient with light armor, medium armor and shields. At level two, you can use Wild Shape as a bonus action. You also gain Lunar Mend, enabling you to expend spell slots to regain hit points in Wild Shape.
As you level up, you gain access to badger, deep rothé, wolf, spider, panther, cat, owlbear and dilophosaurus forms. By level five, you gain Wild Strike — a passive feature that lets you make an additional unarmed attack while wild-shaped.
End Game Abilities
At level 10, you can be an air, earth, fire or water myrmidon. The bear, saber-tooth tiger and dire raven forms are exclusive to the Circle of the Moon subclass.
Wild Shape alone makes this build overpowered. It doesn’t break concentration, so you can cast an area of effect spell with your action and transform it with your bonus action. Best of all, if you drop to zero hit points in Wild Shape, you return to your regular form with no damage taken.
We recommend the owlbear for its size and strength. While it starts with 65 hit points at level six, it reaches 112 by level 12. After knocking your target prone with Crushing Flight, use Claws to inflict some serious slashing damage.
A word of advice — dismiss Wild Shape before any cutscenes start. For some reason, the dialogue syncs with the owlbear’s eye. Seeing its eyelid open and close like lips while its body blocks the rest of your party can really take you out of the moment.
3. Storm Sorcerer
Sorcerer is the second-most popular class for a reason. As a storm sorcerer, you command the power of lightning, thunder, wind and rain. Although you have no armor proficiencies, your primary ability is Charisma and you cast spells — so no one will get close enough to touch you.
If you choose a Blue or Bronze Dragonborn, you gain the Lightning Breath ability and resistance to lightning damage. The Silver and White subraces boast Frost Breath and resistance to cold damage. If you prefer a humanoid Tav, go for the High Half-Elf so you get an extra Cantrip.
What Makes It OP
As a sorcerer, you get access to Metamagic — you exchange replenishable Sorcery Points for additional spell effects. You can increase your spell range by 50%, target an additional creature, cast while silenced or double the duration of spells.
Starting off, select the Cantrips Ray of Frost, Mage Hand, Minor Illusion and Shocking Grasp. Ice Knife, Thunderwave, Chromatic Orb, Fog Cloud and Witch Bolt are great level-one spells.
Once per turn, you can fly as a bonus action after casting a level one spell or higher. You don’t take opportunity attacks, enabling optimal placement on the battlefield.
As you level, you gain Sleet Storm, Create Water, Grant Flight, Call Lightning, Ice Storm, Cone of Cold, Minor Illusion, Blink, Chromatic Orb, Shatter and Gust of Wind.
Get the Rain Dancer quarterstaff at the Druid’s Grove to cast Create Water once per short rest. Alternatively, you can use an ice-based area of effect spell and wait for it to melt. Hit it with lightning to electrify the water. Use Gust of Wind or Shove to push targets into the danger zone.
End Game Abilities
The Elemental Adept feat helps make storm sorcery one of the best Baldur’s Gate 3 builds. It makes your spells and attacks ignore resistance to thunder, lightning or cold damage. It also prevents critical misses.
With the Spell Sniper feat, you can learn an additional Cantrip, which is excellent for stacking elemental damage without expending spell slots. Also, the number you need to roll a critical hit with spells is reduced by one. This effect can stack.
Heart of the Storm unlocks at sorcerer level six. This passive feature creates a storm that deals extra damage to enemies within six meters when you cast a lightning or thunder spell. It also grants resistance to lightning and thunder damage.
Gear Recommendations
With the Watersparkers, you can electrify water just by standing in it. If you start your turn on an electrified water surface, you gain three Lightning Charges. The Sparkswall pairs well with these boots — this ring grants resistance to lightning damage.
The Potent Robe makes your Cantrips deal additional damage equal to your Charisma modifier, which is ideal since your primary ability is Charisma. It also grants temporary hit points equal to your Charisma modifier at the beginning of every turn.
Get the Necklace of Elemental Augmentation as soon as possible during your run. It adds your spellcasting modifier to the damage dealt, maximizing your attacks’ impact.
The Gloves of Belligerent Skies will complete this overpowered set. They inflict two turns of Reverberation on your targets when you deal thunder or lightning damage.
Other than the Rain Dancer quarterstaff, the best weapon to have early on is the Spellsparkler. This rare quarterstaff gives you two Lightning Charges whenever you deal damage with a spell or Cantrip.
4. Thief Rogue
The thief rogue focuses on stealth. You can evade enemies and disappear mid-combat to inflict surprisingly high damage with sneak attacks. Thievery is also practical outside combat, making lockpicking and trap disarming child’s play.
What Makes It OP
The first time you level up, you gain Sneak Attack Melee and Sneak Attack Ranged. Once per turn — if you have advantage or have an ally in close proximity to the enemy — you can do insane damage at a low level.
You also gain several Cunning Actions. You can use a bonus attack to dash, hide or disengage. This has saved us several times. One such instance was during a certain sequence at Crèche Y’llek when the party had to run for their lives — those who know know.
At level three, you gain an additional bonus action. Now, you can dash to a shadowy spot, hide to gain advantage and launch a sneak attack from the shadows all in one turn. Here’s a tip — hold shift to see your enemies’ line of sight, making it easier to position yourself.
Gear Recommendations
As gear goes, you have a lot of options. Some of the more notable picks include the Shadow of Menzoberranzan helmet, which lets you become invisible for two turns. The Disintegrating Night Walkers grant Misty Step and resistance to enwebbed, entangled and ensnared effects.
You can find the Gloves of Thievery early on, which grant advantage on sleight of hand checks. They’re ideal for lockpicking and trap disarming.
Later in the game, you can get The Graceful Cloth. This clothing grants +2 dexterity, resistance to falling damage and advantage on dexterity checks — which is ideal because dexterity is your primary ability.
You also gain a passive +1 to dexterity saving throws and increase your jump distance by 1.5 meters.
Believe us — the Baldur’s Gate 3 builds are only overpowered if you follow through and collect the right gear. Don’t worry, though. You don’t have to spoil yourself by researching items in advance. Just make sure to thoroughly search Faerûn in each act.
Some Baldur’s Gate 3 Builds Are Better Than Others
There are currently 12 classes and 46 subclasses in Baldur’s Gate 3. When patch eight drops, there will be even more subclasses. For now, Battle Master Fighter, Storm Sorcerer, Circle of the Moon Druid and Thief Rogue are the most overpowered Baldur’s Gate 3 builds.
