iPhone apps are great — they make people’s lives easier by organizing notes and keeping photos together while also allowing them to catch up with family or relax with a game after a long day. Despite all the benefits apps provide, they take up quite a bit of storage depending on their data usage. Learning to delete apps on iPhone might be challenging if you aren’t aware of the latest software upgrades.

Design Changes in iOS 14

iOS 14 brought along some incredible changes for the future of home screen design. You can use widgets to customize your phone screen as you see fit and make it your own. Whether you want to display your team spirit or the photos that mean the most to you in an aesthetic way, iOS 14 can allow you to do whatever you want. However, the ability to move things around on your home screen causes a bit of a challenge when you want to delete apps on iPhone.

Since you can now move apps off of your home screen into the App Library, where they are automatically grouped according to similar categories, you may have difficulty finding the app you want to delete if it’s not on your screen. Especially since apps can get lost in the App Library sometimes, it’s more important that you know how to find them to delete the ones you’re not using is the best way to free up space in your phone.

How to Delete Apps on iPhone Permanently

The easiest way to free up storage on your phone is to delete apps, but you should know that deleting apps may delete the data stored in them if they aren’t backed up through the Cloud or another internet-based service. If deleting is your best option, whether you need to free up space or don’t use the app anymore, knowing how to delete apps on iPhone is necessary.

1. Hold Down on the App

This method works for apps on your home screen — that is, they are actively displayed on your phone and not in the library where you have to search for them when you want to use them. When you use a firm touch on the app, it pulls up a menu. You’ll want to click the words “Remove App.”

At this point, you’ll get the option to delete the app entirely or remove it from the home screen. You’ll want to click “Delete App” so that you can remove it from your phone. If you accidentally click the wrong one, it’s okay — there’s a way to remove the app from your App Library, too.

2. Search the App Library

The other way to remove an app is to find it in your App Library and delete it. To access your App Library, you’ll want to swipe all the way to the right, past the last screen of apps that you have on your home screen. You’ll see that your apps are piled into groups according to their purpose.

To hunt down the app you need, you must either find it in the corresponding folder or search your App Library for it. Finding it within a folder is a bit trickier. You’ll have to click on the smaller icons to open the folder up so you can see every app. Clicking on the larger icons will just take you to that app. Once you’ve located the app you want to delete, the method is the same — force touch. From there, you can click “Delete App” and confirm that you want to delete it. Then, it should be off your phone for good.

Learning How to Delete Apps on iPhone is Easier Than Ever

After you delete an app, you can still find it again if you want to redownload it. Whether it was a paid or free app, you can find it in the “Purchased” folder in the App Store. There, you can search for it or scroll through your past apps and redownload it easily.

To delete apps on iPhone, you have to jump through a few hoops. These confirmations are just to ensure you don’t accidentally delete data you still need that is stored only in that app. Still, once you get the hang of it, deleting apps will be the most straightforward task on your to-do list.
