Step-by-Step Guide to Viewing Your YouTube Comment History

With 84% of U.S. adults reporting that they use YouTube regularly, the platform hosts countless conversations between viewers and creators. Managing these interactions becomes easier when you know where to find your past comments.

YouTube keeps track of the comments you make, giving you a central place to manage your past activity. Accessing your YouTube comment history is simple, but the menu options may look different across computers, mobile apps and mobile browsers.

What Can You Do With Your YouTube Comment History?

Once you find your YouTube comment history, you can make changes to previous interactions and keep your activity up to date. YouTube provides tools to edit comments, remove them and revisit conversations from your account.

Edit Your Comments

To edit a comment:

  1. Open the video where you left the comment.
  2. Locate your comment in the discussion section.
  3. Select the three-dot menu next to your comment.
  4. Choose “Edit.”
  5. Make your changes and save the updated comment.

Delete Your Comments

To delete a comment:

  1. Find the comment through your comment history.
  2. Select the three-dot menu next to the comment.
  3. Choose “Delete.”
  4. Confirm the removal.

After you delete a comment, YouTube may take a few hours to remove it fully.

Things to Consider

Keep these points in mind when viewing or managing your YouTube comment history:

  • Deleted or private videos: our comment history will not show comments from videos that creators have deleted or set to private.
  • Removed comments: If YouTube or a channel owner removes one of your comments, it will no longer be available in your history.
  • Missing comments after notifications: If you receive a notification about a comment but cannot find it later, the creator or YouTube may have already removed it.
  • Comment reporting and moderation: Users can report comments they believe violate YouTube’s guidelines, such as spam or abusive content.
  • Search shortcuts on mobile: When viewing comments on mobile devices, certain keywords may appear in blue text. These are search shortcuts that allow you to tap a keyword and quickly search for that term on YouTube.

Why Your YouTube Comment History Matters

Like many online platforms, YouTube collects user data to improve its services, personalize content and support advertising. Understanding your past activity can help you better manage your account while staying informed about your interactions on the platform.

Rediscover Useful Content

Comments can serve as a trail back to videos, tutorials, reviews and discussions that you found valuable. If you remember leaving a thought or question on a useful video but cannot recall the channel or title, your comment history can help you find it again.

Stay Aware of Your Digital Footprint

Your comments contribute to your overall online presence. Regularly checking your past activity lets you see what you have shared publicly and decide whether older comments still reflect your current views or communication style.

Learn About Your Engagement Habits

Looking through your previous comments helps you recognize how you participate in online communities. You may discover topics you frequently discuss, creators you regularly interact with or ways to make future conversations more meaningful.

Best Practices When Using YouTube Comments

Online interactions can leave a lasting impression. A survey found that 43% of employees are aware their workplace may be monitoring their digital behavior, reinforcing the importance of managing public activity carefully. On YouTube, thoughtful commenting can help you maintain control over your public interactions and contribute to more positive discussions.

  • Think before posting: Consider whether your comment contributes positively to the discussion before sharing it.
  • Avoid sharing personal information: Keep private details, such as contact information or other sensitive data, out of public comments.
  • Stay respectful: Disagreements are common online, but constructive conversations create a better experience for everyone.
  • Update outdated comments: Edit older comments if your views have changed or if you shared information that is no longer accurate.
  • Remove comments when needed: Delete comments that no longer reflect your opinions.
  • Report inappropriate content: Refer to YouTube’s reporting tools and guidelines when you come across spam, harassment or other content that violates platform guidelines.
  • Engage thoughtfully: Meaningful comments can help you build connections with creators and other members of the YouTube community.

Take Control of Your YouTube Activity

Your comments represent the conversations, opinions and communities you have engaged with over time. Learning how to find your YouTube comment history makes it easier to stay connected with your activity and approach future interactions with greater awareness.
