Knowing how to block someone on TikTok seems like it should be fairly straightforward. Click on the user’s name, click on the three dots in the upper right and choose “Block.” However, blocking isn’t always as simple as it sounds. What do you do if someone has you blocked and searching for their name pulls nothing up? How can you block a person not on your follower’s list? What warrants a block?
The answer is as complex as relationships between people. If you’re an influencer and someone keeps posting comments or copying your work, determine if the interactions are detrimental to your business as an online personality. If so, you should probably block them, but be aware they may create additional profiles.
Other situations where you might wish to block someone on TikTok include:
Before blocking anyone, consider the ramifications online and offline. For example, blocking a nosy mother-in-law may cause a strain in your relationship. You must consider whether the long-lasting effects of blocking people is worth the instant gratification of removing them from your digital life. Only you can determine whether someone should be blocked on TikTok or not.
The person will not be directly notified that you blocked them from your account. However, they’ll no longer be able to see anything you post, including videos and comments. The user can still see that you have a profile but they will not be able to see your content.
If you had interactions with the individual in the past via direct messages or comments, they will still be able to access message history and potentially see those posts. The block is from the time you begin it moving forward.
With over one billion users on the platform, you’ll likely run into at least one person you want to keep from seeing anything you post.
Because the way to block can vary, depending on the connectivity between you and another TikTok user, there are three main ways to get someone out of your TikTok business. If you’ve determined that blocking is the best course of action, here is how you do it:

A box will appear that explains they won’t be able to see your posts, find your profile or send you messages. It also gives some scenarios where they can still see you, such as multi-host livestreams, duets other people post or group chats. You can go forward by clicking “Block” or cancel the action.

Fake accounts sometimes steal content and block the original creator. Another scenario is when someone blocks you, spies on you and then reblocks you repeatedly. Even if they keep you from seeing their profile, there are a couple of ways to stop their access to your account.
If you ever had messages with the person, you should be able to go into your messages, click on the three dots and block them from that angle. Another option described by users in online forums seems to offer a loophole that works for many users.
Have a friend go and copy their profile address or use a different account to find them. Paste the link into your browser window outside of the TikTok app. While in desktop mode, log into your account, click the three dots and block them. Numerous users reported this method working, but TikTok may close the loophole at some point.
It is more complex to block someone who blocks you first, but for now this solution seems to do the trick. Rehack staff tested the hack above and it worked as of June 2, 2025.
To block those you don’t follow and who don’t follow you, you must find their profile. You still block by clicking on the three dots in the upper right corner of their profile and choosing “Block.” It may be a bit more challenging to locate them and understand the person could have multiple aliases.
Experts estimate 170 million Americans use TikTok. Perhaps the person you are trying to avoid lacks an account. Or maybe you want to try other measures before going to an outright ban. Some things you can do instead of blocking the person include:
If the person is a friend or family member, try having a personal conversation about the boundaries you need to feel secure. Explain that you prefer to remain friends on social media but list the behaviors that must stop for your mental well-being. Someone who cares about you will respect your boundaries even if they don’t agree with them. If they do not, you can move forward with a block knowing you did everything you could to avoid one.
On rare occasions, you may decide to unblock someone. Perhaps you had a spat with a friend and the two of you worked things out. Maybe you broke up with a significant other and now you’re back together. People do change, so whatever the reason for wanting to follow them or let them follow you again on social media, unblocking doesn’t have to be painstaking.
To see your list of blocked users, open the TikTok app. Click on your profile and the hamburger icon in the upper right corner–the three stacked horizontal lines. Choose “Settings and Privacy.” Next, click on “Privacy” and scroll down to “Blocked Accounts.”
You’ll see a list of every blocked profile and a gray button to the right that says “Unblock.”
Like most social media sites, TikTok has pros and cons. If you run into someone who makes you feel uncomfortable, steals your content, or uses your digital posts to try to cause trouble in your everyday life, it’s probably time to block them. Your peace is the most important thing you have–protect it by using the blocking feature as needed.
