Yes, Blocking People on TikTok Is Easy and They Won’t Be Notified

June 4, 2025 • Shannon Flynn

So you’ve come across a creator you don’t want to see anymore. You’ve probably gone to their profile, only to realize there’s no “block” button. The drop-down arrow just shows suggested accounts.  Can you block TikTok accounts on mobile? What about on desktop?

The short answer is yes, you can. There are five methods, to be exact. They all do the same thing, but are helpful in different ways. Luckily, learning how to block someone on TikTok is easy. The app may have overcomplicated it, but we won’t.

A Summary of How to Block Someone on TikTok

Yes, blocking people on TikTok is easy, and no, they won’t be notified. There are five methods, each one taking only a few steps.

You can block TikTok accounts on iPhone, Android, Windows and macOS via the mobile app or website. Visiting the person’s profile is the most straightforward way, but you can also use their comments, videos or messages. Each method has unique benefits.

For instance, with the comments technique, you can stop up to 100 people from viewing your profile at once — no need to visit each profile page individually.

The video method is also beneficial because it allows you to report the account before muting it. Each process has its perks.

What Happens When You Block People on TikTok?

Blocking someone removes all evidence of you from their app, including your views, comments and likes. The only thing that remains is your direct messages (DMs). They won’t receive any notifications about your activity on the platform.

Your comments will disappear from their for you page (FYP). Also, your profile page, posts and follower count will become invisible to them.

They won’t be able to send you any DMs. TikTok’s algorithm won’t recommend you. Even if they search for your username, nothing will come up.

Can You Block Someone Without Them Knowing?

TikTok doesn’t notify people when you block them. However, they might find out you’ve done so because your account won’t appear in searches and they won’t be able to send DMs. If they ask about it, you could always say you deleted your account.

You could also set up a secondary account on the same device. Go to your profile page, tap your username and select Add account. Setting it up is somewhat of a hassle, but it’ll keep them from asking questions.

5 Ways You Can Block Another TikTok User in 2025

You can block TikTok accounts via the mobile app, website, FYP, messages or comments.

1. Block an Account on Mobile

Go to the user’s profile page. Tap the Share icon — the arrow at the top right of the screen. Select the Block button and confirm your choice by hitting Block

2. Report a Video on Your FYP

You can report a video for violence, harassment, self-harm, graphic content and misinformation, among other things.

Once you do, you can choose to Mute content from the account. Muting a user keeps you from seeing their content, but doesn’t stop them from viewing yours.

Alternatively, you can hit Turn on Restricted Mode, which limits your exposure to violent and mature content.

3. Block an Account on Web

Search for the person’s username and go to their profile. Click the three horizontal dots to the right of the Follow and Message buttons. Select Block and then tap Block again to confirm.

4. Block a Sender in Messages

You can block a person via their messages if you have an active chat. On iOS, swipe a chat. Tap More > Block > Block. On Android, press and hold on the chat. Then, tap Block > Block

For message requests, go to Inbox > Message requests > Filtered requests and select one. You can hit Block here.

You can also go into the chat and hit More options at the top to turn the Block setting on. The app will label the chat as blocked. This is great if you want to stop someone from messaging you but don’t want to hide their whole account.

5. Bulk Block via the Comments

Press and hold on a comment to get the option to Manage multiple comments. Once you’ve selected the ones from the accounts you want to block, tap through More > Block accounts > Block > Block to finish.

This is the only bulk blocking option TikTok has. You can pick 100 users at a time without going to each person’s account.

How Blocking a TikTok Account Could Benefit You

Now that you know how to block someone on TikTok, you should see why it’s beneficial.

Stops People From Stealing Your Content

If you stop someone from seeing what you’re doing, they won’t be able to copy your video ideas or steal your content. This way, you won’t lose any money from the TikTok Creator Fund.

Preserves Your Privacy and Online Safety

When you block a person, they can’t see your activity. This level of privacy is great if you have a judgmental colleague, a stalker or a helicopter parent.

If you’re a parent, it helps you preserve your child’s safety online. While 25% of the people on this app are 10 to 19 years old, most are adults. Ideally, though, their account should be in Restricted mode.

Prevents Online Harassment and Bullying

People can be mean when they get to hide behind an anonymous online persona. Preventing them from seeing your content keeps them from harassing or bullying you.

Removes Annoying Creators from Your FYP

On this app, the average user session is about 55 minutes long. That’s more than enough time to see an annoying creator a handful of times. Instead of waiting for FYP to get the hint, you can block that TikTok account.

How to Check if You Were Able to Block Someone

Go to your settings by tapping the lined menu button at the top right of your profile page. Go to Settings and privacy > Privacy > Blocked accounts. Here, you can scroll through everyone you’ve ever blocked. If they’re not there, something may have gone wrong.

Why Are You Unable to Block Someone on TikTok?

While learning how to block someone on TikTok is relatively easy, technical hiccups sometimes happen. Here are the three most common.

You’re Using the Wrong Method

Double-check to make sure you’re using the correct method. For instance, you won’t see the share button on the desktop. You Reached the Block Limit

You might’ve reached the maximum number of blocked accounts. Bulk blocking only works with 100 accounts at a time. Also, the app may flag your account if you block too many people within a short time frame. If you get this error message, wait a few days before trying again.

You Aren’t Signed In

You can only block someone if you have an account and sign in. The app needs some way to keep track of which accounts you want hidden.

The Account Has Been Banned

If a user has already been banned, suspended or deactivated, they won’t show up when you go to block them. Alternatively, they may have already blocked you.

Frequently Asked Questions About TikTok Blocking

If you have questions about how to block someone on TikTok, you might find your answer here.

How Do I Block Someone Without Them Knowing?

TikTok doesn’t notify users when you block them, so you don’t need to do anything special.

The Profile Views feature tells you who has visited your profile in the past 30 days, which might give you pause. However, your account disappears as soon as you turn it off.

That said, it doesn’t matter if you have profile views enabled because your views will disappear from their page as soon as you block them.

If you want to be extra covert, you could create a second account that looks like the first. They won’t know they’ve been blocked if they can still search for your username and view what they believe to be your profile. However, they won’t see your real followers list, posts, account history or comments.

Can I Block a TikTok User Who Blocked Me First?

Blocking someone who has you blocked is complicated, but possible. Using a second decoy account, copy their profile link. Paste it into a browser — not the app — and log into your account. There, you can use the three dots to block them.

An alternative option is to use your inbox. Since DMs don’t disappear when someone blocks you, you can use them to access their profile page.

This method is helpful if you are dealing with an account that copies your videos but has you blocked. This way, you can keep them from building a following with stolen content. It’s also great for stopping harassment from someone who continuously blocks and unblocks you.

How Do I Block Someone Without Viewing Their Profile?

Views disappear when you block someone. However, there are other reasons you might want to avoid visiting a user’s profile. For instance, maybe they post graphic, violent or disgusting content and you don’t want to catch a glimpse.

You can block them if they’ve commented on any of your videos. You can also use any DMs between you. If their video appeared on your FYP, report it and mute them.

You Won’t Have to Interact With Those Users Again

Now you know how to block someone on TikTok. Use that power wisely. Some people estimate you can have 10,000 separate accounts on your blocked list, but TikTok hasn’t offered any official number yet. You’d have to go through about 27 people daily to reach that limit. Still, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
