Silicon Valley Comic Con to See Major Updates for 2020

Comic
Con is a wildly popular event all over the globe. In the United States, Silicon
Valley is home to one of the biggest celebrations. This year’s event is going
to look a little different, though. From dates to the hosts, 2020 brings
updates for Silicon Valley Comic Con. 

New Name, New Dates and New Face

This
year’s Comic Con is going to be different in a number of ways. First, the date
has shifted to being later in the year than it has previously. Though in the
past it has been in either March, April or August, this year, fans will show up
to San Jose from October 16 to 18. 

This
decision came before the U.S. outbreak of the coronavirus, and San Diego already
canceled
its Comic Con scheduled for July. October is far enough into the future
where it might be possible, but it’s too soon to tell how COVID-19 will
ultimately alter the plan. Nevertheless, the new dates will put Comic Con
closer to Halloween, making this cosplaying event a fit. 

The
other two pieces of news go hand-in-hand. A change has come to the name of
Silicon Valley Comic Con. It will now go by “SiliCon with Adam Savage” — a title that leads into
the next update. Since its start in 2016, Steve Wozniak has been the host with
the late Stan Lee. Now, however, Wozniak is passing the torch to Adam Savage, a
former host of the popular show “MythBusters.” 

Wozniak
stated that he was happy to pass the baton to his friend, who has also been a
guest at the previous Cons throughout the years. Savage makes for a fitting
replacement since Comic Con is the center for all things science, technology
and pop culture.

Savage
and the rest of the staff that makes this event possible haven’t announced any
guests yet. Guests usually include game designers, authors, tech leaders,
showrunners, celebrities and more. Based on previous years where Stan Lee,
Jason Momoa and Buzz Aldrin made appearances, there’s sure to be some surprises
in store.

For the Fans

Not
much will change in terms of what the fans can expect. There will be more
excitement for comic book fanatics, pop culture enthusiasts, science lovers and
techies. Comic Con offers a space for people with common interests to come
together and celebrate their passions, a dynamic that will stay the same. 

Additionally,
there will be more of an emphasis on cosplay culture this year. Whether it’s
because of the proximity to Halloween or not, it will offer an exciting focus
on dressing up as beloved characters. 

Fans
can still expect panels, meet and greets and signings to continue this year at
the San Jose McEnery Convention Center. However, people should keep an eye on
news regarding how COVID-19 will affect things — large public
gatherings may be challenging to uphold. 

The Changing Future of Silicon Valley Comic Con

These
changes are sure to add new excitement and surprises to the event in October.
The new dates will bring different amenities to the area, and a new public face
