If you just bought an iPhone and want to transfer your contacts over from your Android, it’s pretty easy. You can transfer them all at once rather than one at a time, which would be a tedious process. The process is completely free and doesn’t require you to download any apps. Here’s how to do it.

Syncing Your Contacts With Google

An Android backs up your phone contacts to your Google account, while iPhones store the backup in an iCloud account. Therefore, you’re going to be transferring your information from your Google account to iCloud. Ready to get started? First, make sure your Android contacts are synced with your Google account.

  1. Open Settings on your Android phone.
  1. Then, go to Accounts and backup.
  1. Next, click Accounts.
  1. Locate the Google account you’re using with your Android phone.
  1. Click on it.
  1. Finally, tap Sync Account and make sure your contacts are being synced. If not, then hit the slider next to the Contacts tab to turn on syncing.

This should upload your contacts to your Google account.

Next Steps

You’re going to need a computer for this part of the process.

  1. Using a PC or Mac, go to contacts.google.com.
  2. Sign in to your Google account if you aren’t already logged in. Your phone contacts should appear on the screen.
  3. Next, select one of the contacts. A toolbar will pop up that contains a blue square with a horizontal line in the middle. Just to the right of it, click on the solid blue downward arrow.
  4. Then, select All. This will check the boxes next to every contact in your list, indicating that they’re all selected.
  5. On the right side of the toolbar, there are three vertical blue dots. If you hover over this icon, it should be labeled More Options. Click on it.
  6. Next, click Export from the dropdown menu that appears.
  7. A box will pop up. First, make sure Selected contacts has a blue circle to the left of it, indicating that it’s selected.
  8. Then, click on vCard (for iOS Contacts). This will let you transfer the contacts from your Android to your iPhone.
  9. Click Export. This will download a file called “contacts.” It will be a vCard file, which is used for sharing electronic business cards.
  10. Then, go to your Downloads folder to make sure the file is there.
  11. Next, go to icloud.com on your browser. Log in to your iCloud account.
  12. Click on Contacts. This section should say “No Contacts.”
  13. On the very bottom left of the screen, you’ll see a gear icon called the Actions Menu. Click on that.
  14. Next, select “Import vCard…” from the popup menu.
  15. Finally, go to your downloads folder and select the contacts file. Click Open.

All your Android contacts should appear in the menu.

Double Checking Your iPhone

Now, you need to make sure the contacts transferred to your actual iPhone, not just your online account. Grab your iPhone and follow these steps:

  1. Unlock your phone and then go to Settings.
  2. Then, click Passwords & Accounts.
  3. Next, click on iCloud. Make sure that Contacts is turned on. If not, click the button to the right of it to enable it.
  4. Lastly, open the Phone app on your iPhone. Your contacts should now be visible.

A Simple Process

Transferring the contacts from your Android to your iPhone is relatively quick and easy. All you need is your Android phone, your iPhone and a computer with an Internet connection. Now you’re ready to call and text people on your brand-new phone.
